The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC)

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre is one of the two major convention and exhibition venues in Hong Kong.

About HKCEC

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), located on the magnificent and renowned Victoria Harbour, is owned by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. HKCEC as one of the best exhibition and convention centers globally; renowned for excellence and hosting the world’s greatest events while enhancing Hong Kong’s international image.

Challenge

HKCEC often hosts multiple exhibitions concurrently. The person in charge at HKCEC requested One Techsoft AI to custom event management system, as they had different systems for various display models. The bespoke system would allow them to use diverse display types to showcase the event schedules simultaneously.

Additionally, a mobile app version had been developed by another vendor, so we needed to contact the responsible party to centralize their system with ours.

The key challenge of One Techsoft AI was that the different displays had to present distinct content. For instance, the ceiling displays would only show directions, while the stand kiosks needed to display both directions and event details.

Solution

After extensive communication with HKCEC, we were able to develop a custom event management system that could centralize their digital signage. This allowed the different display models to finally integrate the content simultaneously.

However, one of the most significant challenges was coordinating with the vendor who had developed a separate mobile app version for HKCEC. As we were working with completely different systems, it required a significant amount of time and effort to align the functionalities and data between our event management system and the mobile app.

The main issues we faced were around data synchronization and user experience consistency. Since the mobile app and our digital signage system operated independently, we had to ensure the event information, schedules, and wayfinding data were constantly in sync across both platforms. This involved developing custom integration points and frequent data exchanges between the two systems.

Additionally, HKCEC wanted a cohesive user experience, so we had to work closely with the mobile app vendor to align the visual design, navigation, and overall interaction patterns between the digital signage and the mobile app. This level of coordination and compromise between two separate development teams was extremely challenging within the tight project timeline.

Result

Ultimately, through rigorous testing, seamless deployment, and open communication, we were able to deliver a cohesive cross-platform experience that fully met HKCEC's requirements. This allowed the different display models to simultaneously present their unique content, whether it was directional information or event details.

The successful implementation has significantly benefited the tourism industry, enabling visitors to easily access the event schedules and details. Furthermore, the solution has contributed to enhancing the overall image and reputation of HKCEC and Hong Kong as a premier event destination.
